What is a frozen shoulder-
The problem of frozen shoulder or pain in the shoulder joint is also called Adhesive Capsulitis. This problem starts gradually and later takes a serious form. Many people mistake shoulder stiffness for arthritis, but there is no connection between these two conditions. Shoulder stiffness causes pain only in the shoulder, while arthritis causes pain in other joints of the body as well. Usually this problem affects people between 40 and 60 years of age, and women are more likely to suffer from it than men. In this problem, the tissues around the shoulder joint become swollen and stiff, causing difficulty and pain in moving the shoulder. The problem of shoulder stiffness can affect one or both of your shoulders.
Frozen shoulder symptoms-
▪︎ Pain - Some people experience extreme pain at night due to this problem. It also disrupts their sleep.
▪︎ Stiffness – Due to stiffness people phase difficulty in performing daily activities like getting ready, driving, brushing your teeth, combing your hair etc.
Frozen shoulder stages-
Frozen shoulder is usually a slowly developing problem. It has three stages.
1- Gradually getting stiff – In this condition, here is pain in moving your shoulder in any way. Due to which the function of your shoulder gets limited.
2- Increasing stiffness – In this, the pain of shoulder stiffness increases and your shoulder can hardly move.
3- Recovery of stiffness – During this phase your shoulder becomes less stiff and starts improving.
Cause of Frozen Shoulder-
Mostly people get shoulder stiffness due to diabetes. 40 to 50 percent of diabetic people feel the symptoms of shoulder stiffness. Also people may face this kind of problem due to a recent shoulder injury or fracture.
When there is damage to the tissues of the shoulder, then shoulder stiffness starts. Along with this there is also pain. However, it is difficult to fully understand the exact cause of shoulder stiffness and its cause cannot always be identified.
How to identify Frozen Shoulder-
To check for shoulder stiffness, your doctor will ask you to move your shoulder in several ways. This will help him understand the exact position of your pain and shoulder movement. This problem can be diagnose on the basis of signs and symptoms, for conformation your doctor may suggest an X-ray or MRI.
